Wipe Every Tear

Process Art & Art Facilitation

January to March 2020 with Wipe Every Tear in Luzon, Philippines

In January 2020, I joined the Wipe Every Tear team in the Philippines and lead a series of art workshops. This organization works to provide women a way out of the sex trade with physical, emotional, and spiritual tools to be empowered to take care of themselves and their children. This looks like meals, case management, housing, therapy — the WORKS.

This series of pixelated portraits was drawn with colored pencils on 8.5x11" tone tan paper. I wanted to remember the women of Wipe Every Tear while honoring their privacy. It was a privilege to witness & hear their stories. Drawing these helped me process my experience.

The Wipe Every Tear team let me facilitate 12 art groups with ladies living in their safe houses, which was really cool because I had no art therapy training at the time. What I lacked in facilitation skills I made up for in snacks. It was an honor hanging out with such a creative and vibrant group of survivors.
